Ramon Lopez Jimenez PhD

Ramon Lopez holds a MSc in ore deposits by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain), a PhD in deep-marine sedimentology by the University of Aberdeen (UK) and a postdoc in shallow marine sedimentology by the University of Hull (UK).

With 17 years of experience, Ramon is one of key international experts in reservoir rock architecture for deep-water petroleum plays as he has worked in the best exposed outcrop analogues of slope channel complexes controlled by extensional, contractional and salt tectonics (sedimentary basins and mountain ranges of Spain, Portugal, Turkey, Mexico, Colombia, USA, UK and France).

He has run research projects funded by the oil & gas and mining sector, consulting for companies like Beicip Franlab, PEMEX, Grupo Mexico, Geolog, URS, Inspiralia and Tectonic Analysis.


Ramon has worked as researcher and teacher with education, research institutions and governmental organizations like Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, University of Aberdeen, University of Hull and EMODnet - europa.eu. 


Ramon has lead and co-lead field trips in La Popa Basin and Maras Basin with its own consultancy company and with the Turbidites Research Team of the University of Aberdeen.
