The instructor will use data sets of shallow and deep-water sedimentary systems from world-famous outcrops such as the Maras Basin (Turkey), San Fernando Canyon (Baja California), La Popa Basin (Mexico), Magallanes Basin (Chile), Sorbas Basin (Spain). The course is strongly supported by unpublished video and photographic content from exceptional ancient outcrops of  sand dunes and ridges, channel-fills, internal and external levees, other overbank deposit types, a wide range of mass transport deposit types, lobes, halokinetic units, ponded sandstones in mini basins, among others. We will show these deposits in basins that were controlled by submarine fold-and-thrust propagation thrusts and salt tectonics. We combine this exceptional outcrop material with a selection of of seismic, well-log, and core data sets from basins across the globe.
